Successful people are productive people. There is no doubt that today’s the era of digital media, and all the tools and apps listed below will help you maximize your time and become a super-human in managing your tasks, projects and work.

The world is changing fast and so are  task management tools and productivity apps. New ones are born every day and the old ones evolve to keep up with the fast pace of today’s world.

Here is a list of the best task management tools available this year, plus my recommendation for the best SaaS (software as a service) productivity tools that will help you stay  effortless and on point all the way to achieve your goals and crush it in your business and life.

The best task management tools

As you may know, there are zillions of to-do list apps available online and in the app store. But, how many of them really help you stay organized, focused and productive?  Not many!

I have tried and tested many of them and here are my top picks, which I believe will really stand the test of time and will help you manage your tasks and stay on point.

To be honest, any of the tools below (including the one I’m building) can serve your basic task management needs  but if you want a deeper experience with zen-like design, helpful automation and interesting new features, then you should check out Wunderlist up until March 2018 when its development will be transferred to Microsoft To-Do.

Microsoft To-Do (in development)

Microsoft To-Do is the latest kid on the block and it  promises to deliver the modern experience from Wunderlist with some amazing new features. To-Do is in preview stage right now but you can sign up for an early access here.

As I’m writing this, To-Do is the best replacement for Wunderlist so unless Microsoft screws it up (which I don’  t think they will), it’s a safe bet.

Todo.com

To do.com is the free alternative to the above paid tools. It is also a great tool which has all the features you need plus some cool additions. If you don’t want to spend money, then To do.com is your  best friend.

Apple Notes

Many people forget about Apple Notes and unfortunately, with the new iOS 11, the To-Do app is removed from the iPhone and iPad landscape mode. So, those of you who like to use To-Do on the go will have to rely on Apple Notes to keep things organized. Sure, it may  be a bit more clunky than the dedicated To-Do app but it’s still pretty good and much better than paper notes!

There are hundreds of task management tools out there and it would be impossible for me to review them all in this article. The following are some of the most popular alternatives to the above listed  tools. They may be a good alternative if you’re looking for something different or if you want to switch platforms and not go with Microsoft To-Do (which is only available on the web for now).

Workflow (in beta)

If you’re an iPhone user, then Workflow may be a good option for you. This powerful tool  allows you to create automation shortcuts which can help you do things quicker without having to manually search and click every time. For example, you can create a workflow which automatically retrieves all your tasks from To do.com and then exports them into a spreadsheet or another tool like Evernote. Check out this example.

As well as being an excellent task manager, Workflow also integrates with a large number of other third-party tools such as Reddit, Gmail, Twitter, Google Docs and more. It’s a really powerful tool and although it’s a bit pricey at $4.99 (but it does have some useful demo features  for you to try), it’s definitely worth it if you find a use for it.

Todoist

If you’re looking for a simple to-do list tool but with more features, Todoist may be the one for you. It’s a popular tool for managing tasks and projects and it comes with built-in capabilities to help you stay ahead and in control of your tasks, reminders, notes , files and projects. It’s a more polished tool with a premium subscription starting at $4.99 per month or $29 per year. However, it does have a free version which limits the number of projects and tasks you can create.

Evernote

Although Evernote is primarily known as a tool for archiving notes and documents, it can certainly be used to manage tasks. In fact, thanks to its flexibility E  nnote can be used to manage almost any type of data. Its interface can be a bit complex but the tool does provide capabilities to help you keep track of your tasks, create notes and documents and archive past notes and documents. It also provides the ability to add notes and documents directly from web browsers, which makes it a handy tool for those who   need to access their notes and documents while they are surfing the web.

Price: Basic plan is free, $5/month or $45/year for unlimited use. Plus plan $69/year for teams of 3+ users with additional features.

Overall assessment

Although Evernote is a very versatile tool, its various features  make it a bit complex to use for simple task management. Thus, it’s not the best choice for those who need a simpler tool for managing tasks.

Price: Free trial, then $29/year or $49/year for premium versions with additional features.

Toodledo is a more sophisticated  tool for managing tasks than the other tools reviewed above. It provides a wide range of capabilities for task management, including scheduling, reminders, notes and archiving of past tasks. The interface is a bit complex but it is organized in a way that makes it easy to find the features you need to manage your tasks. Toodledo also provides mobile  apps for iPhone and iPad as well as desktop apps for Windows and Mac computers.

Price: Basic plan is free, $6.95/month or $79.95/year for additional features. Professional plan $129.95/year for teams of 10+ users with additional features.

Overall assessment

Base is a Saa  SA software tool for building your own solution. Although the Base platform does provide some basic task management capabilities, it is primarily a CRM solution that you need to learn how to use in order to take full advantage of its task management features.

Price: Starting at $149/month or $1229/year for the full platform 

 (includes CRM, collaboration, marketing automation and other tools) plus $149/month or $1229/year for the task management component.

Overall assessment

Stormforce is a full-featured solution for managing projects and tasks. It includes features for team collaboration, task lists, task priorities, task tracking, time tracking and progress  bars. The interface is clean and provides links to related tasks. Although this tool offers a free version, it is limited to three projects with 10 tasks each. It is best suited for small business and entrepreneurs with multiple projects.

Price: Free trial, then $9.99/month or $89.99/year for premium version
